Improving Mechanical Property of Hyper-Eutectic Al-Si Alloys via Regulating the Microstructure by Rheo-Die-Casting

The microstructure plays a key role in the mechanical properties of hyper-eutectic Al-Si alloys. In this study, we investigate microstructural evolution rheo-die-casting (RDC) on Al-15Si-4Cu-0.5Mg alloy using rotational barrel system. Our findings demonstrate that higher speed and pouring temperature reduce size roundness primary Si particles semisolid slurry. Additionally, during RDC, dendritic aluminum matrix skeletal iron-containing inter metallics are sheared off, leading to more uniform dispersed Al2Cu phase. Ultimately, our rheo-diecasting results indicate formation near globular matrix, fine particles, homogeneous phase, thus highlighting efficacy processing method for improving alloy. We suggest these hold promise enhancing quality aluminum-based alloys various industrial applications.
